New business loan: match funding to cash flow and purpose

New business borrowing should solve a defined funding need. Equipment investment, inventory and a delay between invoicing and collections have different repayment patterns, so begin with the use of funds rather than a requested maximum limit.

Credswitch currently provides illustrative calculators and loan enquiry capture. It does not sanction or disburse loans, display live lender offers or run credit checks through this enquiry. Approval, product availability, rates and terms are decided by the lender after a separate assessment.

Distinguish a term need from a revolving need

A long-lived asset and a short seasonal inventory cycle may need different facilities. Explain how the borrowed money will be used and when the business expects cash back. Ask lenders which structure fits the purpose rather than assuming a standard monthly EMI is appropriate for every need.

Build a repayment cash-flow view

Use collected revenue, operating payments, taxes, owner drawings and existing debt service to estimate cash available. Test a slow-collection period. Turnover is not the same as surplus cash, and projected orders should not be treated as confirmed collections.

Prepare records that tell a consistent story

Reconcile the funding amount with quotations, financial statements and bank activity as relevant. Explain seasonal or one-off changes. A lender may request additional documents or security based on its product and assessment; there is no universal document list or guaranteed approval threshold.

A planning example

An illustrative distributor needs inventory before a festival season but expects customer collections later. A dated cash timeline helps distinguish a short working-capital gap from a long-term asset purchase and makes the funding discussion more precise.

What to prepare

Preparation checklist only. Keep original documents secure; the current enquiry does not request document uploads. A lender may ask for different or additional records.

Questions before your next step

Can a newly formed business enquire?

Yes, but acceptance of an enquiry does not establish eligibility. Product availability and business-vintage requirements vary by lender.

Does the calculator cover overdrafts?

No. The current calculator estimates reducing-balance instalments. Overdrafts and other facilities require calculations based on their own utilisation and terms.
