Part-prepayment: check how the payment will be applied
Sending extra money to a loan account is not always the same as completing a recognised part-prepayment under the lender's process. Confirm how the payment will be applied and what schedule follows.

Obtain the process before paying
Ask about applicable conditions, payment instructions, charges and whether the amount reduces principal or is treated another way. Request a revised schedule and verify the effective date used in the calculation. Keep a payment acknowledgement. If you want a particular outcome for EMI or tenure, ask whether it is available and how to request it rather than assuming the system will choose it automatically.
A worked situation
An extra ₹25,000 remittance might not produce the expected tenure reduction if it has not been processed as intended. Compare the next statement with the acknowledged instruction and revised schedule. The transaction reference proves payment, but the account entries show its treatment.
Your next-step checklist
- Confirm the recognised prepayment procedure
- State the requested schedule outcome
- Verify principal and the revised schedule afterwards
Is depositing extra cash sufficient proof of prepayment treatment?
It proves a transfer, not necessarily the intended application. Follow the lender's process and obtain confirmation of how the amount affected the account and future repayments.
