A no-dues letter and a closed loan: build a complete closure file

A paid balance, a closure acknowledgement and the end of an automatic debit are separate records. Keep a complete closure file so you can explain the account's final position later without relying on app access alone.

Reconcile the last statement

Ask for the lender's applicable closure confirmation or no-dues document and compare it with the final repayment statement. Follow instructions for any mandate cancellation, refunds or security release. Retain account references and official acknowledgements. For secured loans, document return and release steps require their own attention; do not assume a payment receipt proves those actions are complete.

A worked situation

If the final EMI is paid in September but another debit occurs in October, the closure file helps identify whether there was a timing issue, residual amount or collection error. A precise complaint can refer to both payment and closure evidence.

Your next-step checklist

  • Retain the final repayment statement
  • Obtain the relevant closure acknowledgement
  • Reconcile later debits or refunds promptly

Can I rely only on the app showing zero?

A zero display is useful but may not describe every closure formality. Obtain and retain the lender's official final account documentation and any required security-release evidence.
