Salary date and EMI date: build a repayment calendar with a buffer
A monthly budget can look balanced while the account runs short on a particular date. Map when money arrives and when payments are collected so a timing gap is visible before the due date.

Track the lowest balance
Place salary, rent, utilities, card payments and EMIs on a dated calendar. Include the possibility of a delayed salary credit or a non-working day. Ask the lender about any available date-change process and costs rather than simply moving money later. A reserve for timing differences should be separate from funds already assigned to another expense.
A worked situation
If salary normally arrives on the 7th but an EMI is collected on the 5th, the previous month's remaining funds need to cover the gap. A spreadsheet showing income and spending only as monthly totals can hide that shortfall repeatedly.
Your next-step checklist
- Map actual credit and debit dates
- Check the lowest balance between credits
- Ask about formal due-date changes if needed
Can I change the EMI date myself by paying later?
No. Follow the lender's formal process for any permitted date change. A self-chosen payment date does not alter the contract's due date or associated obligations.
