Applying for a loan after changing jobs: organise the transition

A job change can create a gap between employment records and salary credits. Preparing the timeline clearly is more useful than submitting different explanations across multiple applications.

Show continuity and changed terms

Keep the previous employment end date, new joining date, employment letter and salary-credit records together. Explain any gap, relocation cost or change from fixed to variable pay. Ask the lender how it treats recent employment changes and whether it needs additional evidence. Policies differ; a new employer's offer letter is not the same as a history of salary received. Use your actual current position rather than describing employment as confirmed prematurely.

A worked situation

If the new role starts on 20 June and the first credit is a partial-month salary, that smaller payment may need explanation. A simple timeline can distinguish it from a permanent reduction in income. Include the date the first full monthly salary is expected, without treating it as money already received.

Your next-step checklist

  • Create one accurate employment timeline
  • Identify partial salary credits separately
  • Recalculate repayments using the new take-home pay

Must I wait a fixed number of months?

There is no single waiting period applicable to every lender and product. Ask for the current employment-policy requirement before making a formal application.
