Sharing PAN for a loan enquiry: check purpose, channel and consent
PAN is sensitive identity information. Before providing it, understand who is collecting it, why it is requested and what the stated enquiry or application process will do with the information.

Distinguish collection from verification
Read the privacy and consent language and verify the website or lender independently. Ask whether the step includes a bureau enquiry or lender application, rather than assuming PAN collection automatically authorises either. Avoid sending identity documents to personal chat accounts or public comment threads. Keep a record of the organisation, purpose and consent provided, and use its official contact route for correction or deletion questions.
A worked situation
Credswitch's current enquiry form collects PAN and date of birth for enquiry review. The stated enquiry consent does not itself run a bureau check or submit a lender application. A later service should explain its own process and required permissions before proceeding.
Your next-step checklist
- Verify the collecting organisation and domain
- Read what the consent actually covers
- Use an official secure submission route
Does typing PAN mean a credit check has happened?
Collection and bureau access are distinct actions. Ask the provider what its specific step does and review the relevant consent rather than inferring the outcome from the field alone.
