Upfront loan-release fees: verify the request before sending money

A demand to pay an unfamiliar person before a loan is released should be independently verified. Separate charges disclosed by the actual lender from an unsolicited promise that payment guarantees disbursal.

Use a channel you establish yourself

Find the lender's official contact details independently rather than using only the number or link in the payment message. Ask whether the charge, account and payment reference are genuine and applicable to your proposal. Do not share an OTP, banking password or remote-device access to complete an alleged release procedure. Preserve suspicious messages and follow official reporting routes if fraud is suspected.

A worked situation

A message saying an approved loan is blocked until a fee reaches a personal UPI address is not the same as an itemised charge in a verified lender process. The correct next step is independent confirmation, not a faster transfer to preserve an alleged limited-time offer.

Your next-step checklist

  • Verify the charge and recipient independently
  • Check the written offer and itemised costs
  • Preserve messages and transaction evidence

Are all upfront charges automatically fraudulent?

No blanket conclusion is appropriate. Some genuine processes have disclosed charges. The key is verifying the actual lender, applicable charge and authorised recipient through an independent official channel.
