A job change during a balance transfer: update the application timeline

An employment change while a transfer is being assessed can affect the information on which the new lender is working. Keeping both the employment and loan-settlement timelines accurate helps avoid mismatches.

Notify the lender before completion

Explain the new joining date, salary structure and any gap in income. Ask whether the proposal needs reassessment or fresh documents. At the same time, keep paying the existing loan until settlement and closure are confirmed through the lender's process. An application in progress is not the same as an old debt already repaid. Budget for the possibility that the transfer takes longer than expected.

A worked situation

If the expected disbursal is in August but the new employer's first salary arrives in September, the bridge month still needs funding. A forecast built around the previous employer's salary date may no longer work even if the proposed EMI is lower.

Your next-step checklist

  • Update employment information promptly
  • Keep existing repayments funded
  • Recheck any offer validity after the change

Should I leave the old employer on the form?

No. Provide accurate current information and explain the transition. The lender can then tell you what assessment or additional evidence is necessary before proceeding.
